Fishing Report for Lake of the Woods
and the Rainy River
7-22-08
Fishing remains steady all along the south shore of Lake of the Woods. Anglers are finding fish just outside the Lighthouse Gap all the way over to Zippel Bay. A combination of drifting with a spinner or anchored and jigging has been working well in 16-24 feet of water. A few anglers have started down rigging but haven’t had great success yet. A little patience is needed to catch a nice limit of fish, but the weather forecast looks great for the week so it’s a perfect time to enjoy some sunshine on the lake. The Northwest Angle and Islands is enjoying a great season this summer. Hot spots continue to be around Oak and Flag Islands. Nice limits of walleye and pike, along with a few trophies, have been caught anchored and jigging. Remember you DO NOT need a passport to visit the Northwest Angle.
