Last week's windy/rainy weather broke just in time for Saturday's SD pheasant opener. There were plenty of hunter's out trying to bag their birds, but there were also a few fishermen out also.
The few anglers that opted to get their boats out one more time did very well on the white bass. Some were eager to see if the perch bite or walleye bite was still active, but unfortunately, there was not much reported.
The best walleye action has been at the foot of the lake near Ortonville. The fishermen are casting crankbaits or pitching jigs/minnows in the early evening hours to catch their fish. Some evenings there is a very high success rate, some evenings there is nothing to report. Guess that is fishing!
As one looks up and down the lake there are not many docks left in the water and many seasonal cabin owners have called it quits for the year. There are still a few days ahead to set the hook on Big Stone Lake.
